Chegando em mais um final de ano, quero aqui, reforcar meu apreço a esse grupo que muito me tem feito sentir pertencente a uma familia capoeiristica.

Infelizmente todo caminho árduo representa trabalho, disciplina, humildade e dedicação. Estamos a cada dia mais maduros enquanto grupo que se afirma no cenário internacional da capoeira, aceitando sem vacilar os desafios que o próprio desenvolvimento da arte nos oferece e nos anima a continuar. Acreditando sempre em nossa união que nos fortalece e na possibilidade de continuarmos sempre a reconhecer nós próprios no rosto de cada um, nos apresentamos sem o artíficio de uma máscara que poderia esconder uma face envergonhada.

Nosso olhar continua preso nos olhos de quem esta à nossa frente e digo com a certeza de que, ao afirmar isso na primeira pessoa, estou sendo representativo de toda a familia União na Capoeira, que, desde os tempos da lama grudenta do Bumba-meu-Boi, vem trazendo para Sobradinho um destaque entre as cidades brasileiras que são berco de um grupo que defende com honestidade a arte que desenvolve, espalhando para o velho continente europeu e América do Norte, no distante Canadá.

Vamos seguindo em frente, com nossos projetos e sonhos de uma vida melhor para cada elemento do grupo. Todavia, é certo que ninguem nunca assinou nenhum contrato vitalício com o Grupo Uniao na Capoeira e se nossa porta esta sempre aberta para receber quem pede para entrar, da mesma forma ela está pra quem deseja seguir outro caminho, sem o prejuízo de uma amizade, consideração ou respeito. Pois quem sabe pedir para entrar, com certeza terá a honestidade na exata medida para comunicar o início de um novo caminho.

Desejo a todos voces, Mestres, Contramestres, Professores e demais alunos do Grupo União na Capoeira, um natal feliz e harmonioso e um ano de 2012 muito mais produtivo, feliz e com renovadas forças para mais uma jornada de caminhada.

Arriving at the end of another year, I wish to reinforce my appreciation to this group which has made me feel part of a family capoeiristica.

Unfortunately every path is hard work, discipline, humility and dedication. We are ever more mature as a group that is affirmed on the international area of capoeira without hesitation accepting the challenges that the very development of the art offers us and encourages us to continue. Always believing in our union that strengthens us and we are always able to recognize ourselves in the face of every one we present ourselfs without the artifice of a mask that could hide an embarrassed face.

Our gaze is still stuck in the eyes of those ahead of us and say with certainty that that in the first person to say this, I’m being representative of the entire family in União Capoeira, which since the days of sticky mud of Bumba-meu-Boi, is bringing Sobradinho as a highlight among the Brazilian cities that are home to a group that advocates honestly the art that it practices, spreading to the old continent of Europe and North America, in distant Canada.

Let’s move forward with our plans and dreams of a better life for each group element. However, it is certain that no one ever signed any lifetime contract with the Grupo União na Capoeira and our door is always open for those seeking to enter, as it is for those who want to follow another path, without the loss of a friendship, consideration or respect. Well, who knows how to ask to join has surely the honesty to the same extent to communicate the beginning of a new path.

I wish all of you Masters, Contra-Mestres, Professors and other students do Grupo União na Capoeira, a happy and harmonious Christmas and year of 2012 much more productive, happy and with renewed strength for another journey .

Batizado 2011 Friday Night Roda

We’d like to extend an open invitation to all capoeiristas to join us in celebration on our Batizado and Troca de Graduação 2011.

The schedule is:

Friday Jul. 22nd – Roda from 6pm to 9pm
Saturday Jul. 23rd – Workshops and Rodas from 12pm to 5pm
Sunday Jul. 24th – Batizado e Troca de Gradução from 12pm to 5pm

The event will be at our current location on 160 Spadina Ave, 2nd Floor (Street Dance Academy).

The cost of attendance will be $30 for participation in the full day of workshops. The open roda and the Batizado ceremony will be free of charge to all.

The workshops will be held by Prof. Fabio 90 and Mestre China.

Batizado e Troca de Graduacao 2011

Our roda at the Trinity Bellwoods was a success!  We had a 30 minute demonstration, with the help of some of our friends from Axe Capoeira and Capoeira Aruande – Obrigada!   

Our batizado is coming up.. and fundraising is underway.  We will be holding a raffle on the day of the batizado… giving away free classes, apparel, DVD’s and jewelry… all in some way related to capoeira and at the same time, supporting our group.  Tickets will be available as of today, July 5, 2011 in class… please come and see me (Coelha) to get your share to sell!  Let’s pull together to make this happen…

Just to inform everyone that our Batizado will take place on the weekend of July 22nd to the 24th.  We will be having a special guest attending for the month of July – Mestre Bilu.  During the month of July, we will be hosting a series of workshops leading up to our event on the 24th.  Attendance is important at this event as it is our formal graduation ceremony for our students.  The event will be held at the Street Dance Academy where classes are normally held.  A schedule of these events will follow once we finalize details. 

So for now, train hard, and see you in class!

ps.. for those of you who have not yet purchased your uniform shirts for class, come see me.  As well, if you havent yet paid your fees for the month, please see Cantador.  Our Batizado is costing us some money… and we need to raise as much as we can for it!!

Sunday, June 25th – at 5pm – we will be holding our monthly summer street roda at car-free Sunday at Kensington market.  We will be located just south of College Street on Augusta (closest intersection would be Oxford and Augusta).  Be there earlier in order to set up.

Tuesday, June 28th – at 6pm during class, we will be holding a roda in place of regularly scheduled training.  A full hour of play time with a special invitation extended to our previous Grupo Uniao members.  Use this as a time to play those of different skill levels, to see ol friendly faces, and meet the fellow members of our group. 

As well, please note that during Professor Kmelos absence until June 30th, classes are still being held during their normal sessions at the academy.

Proper attire for class requires white abadas and the group t-shirt.  For those just starting, white athletic pants and plain white shirts are suitable, but every effort must be made to obtain the class uniform.
