Last year we had a challenge, to play capoeira for 24h. The result… A SUCCESS…

We managed to hold a Roda for 24h without letting the Berimbau stop once. The roda started at 12pm on Saturday and ended at 12pm on Sunday.

Because of the huge success of our first event, we will be doing it again. And once again inviting every Capoeirista to come and participate in this one of a kind event, something you wont forget.

So this summer Saturday, August 14th we will be starting another 24h Roda at 12pm and ending it on Sunday, August 15th at 12pm.

The location: Street Dance Academy located at Queen and Spadina.

More details will come, so start getting ready for once again show you are up to this challenge and spend 24 hours amongst friends playing Capoeira.

July 25th 2010, is Car Free Sunday where we will have our now traditional Roda in the corner of Augusta and Oxford.

Everyone is welcome to participate and bring their best AXE.

Roda de Rua 2010 takes place throughout Toronto for three days in August.
Capoeira students will have the opportunity to participate in capoeira workshops with internationally renown capoeiristas and Mestres. Friends, family and supporters are invited to join us for one of our public demonstrations as we take capoeira back to its roots on the streets of Brazil with exhilarating street performances throughout Toronto. Roda de Rua 2010 culminates in a high energy performance of capoeira, music, and traditional dance at the MacMillan Theatre (UofT) on August 8th.

A special week-long series of workshops, talks and rodas with Mestre Jogo de Dentro, from Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.

Workshops will focus on the movements, strategy, music and ritual of Capoeira Angola. Capoeira Angola, sometimes called capoeira mãe or the mother capoeira, is often described as an older more African style of capoeira. Mestre Jogo de Dentro is a student of Mestre Joåo Pequeno, himself a student of Mestre Pastinha. Named, “Jogo de Dentro” by Mestre João Grande for his inside and close style of play, Mestre Jogo’s life is one of dedication to the study and teaching of Capoeira Angola around the world. He has several nucleuses of his group, Semente do Jogo de Angola in Brazil, Italy, and Canada. This is a unique opportunity to study with one of the great masters of Capoeira Angola and attend true rodas in the Angola style led by Mestre Jogo de Dentro.

24h Capoeira Roda (The End)

The 24h Roda was a success. I would like to thank all of you for taking on the challenge, and a special thanks goes to Capoeira Mandinga and Aruande, for the commitment, for the AXE and for holding the roda from start to finish.

In the words of Inst. Parafuzinho (Capoeira Aruande):

“It was the drive in all of us, the will to stand tall to the challenge and to work as a unit…not even…a family…from different, backgrounds, schools, cities, to speak the same dialect and to make something like that happen is simply beautiful!”

Our 24h Roda, a first in Canada, will forever remain in our hearts, trust me when I say that it’s an unforgettable event. I hope everyone is getting ready for the challenge and we will be strong and hold the roda for the whole 24h…

As the roda “starts at 12pm”, I would like everyone to be there for 11:30am, so the roda can start right on time.

We will have snacks available on donation based. The proceedings will help cover our costs and also go towards our 2009 Batizado coming in August.
