To all female capoeiristas, we invite you to demonstrate Capoeira to a group of young women (16-19 yr. olds). The purpose of this demo is to show that female empowerment takes many forms.

Show up at 1p.m. at 20 Gordon Ridge Place (Midland and Danforth). The demo will start at 1:45p.m.

HERstory women’s forum to break barriers and create bonds in sisterhood.

The organizers of this conference would like a group of female Capoeiristas to demonstrate the artform to a group of young women at risk (16-19 yr. olds). The purpose of this demo is to show that female empowerment takes many forms. Capoeira is a physically/spiritually-challenging artform that demands the mastery of a variety of arts. Although Capoeira is a counter-culture artform, in a lot of ways, it is a microcosm of the world we live in. Women in Capoeira continuously break mental/social barriers about gender so they can grow in a progressive and healthy way. This is an opportunity to demonstrate this to your female peers. I also want to take this chance to have a roda of women from various groups in the city. This will showcase the many Capoeira styles/experience levels/ethnicities/age levels that have made room for Capoeira in their hearts.
